Avi-Culture Quad Plate
Intended Use
The Shelby Scientific Inc. Avi-Culture Quad Plate is a simple yet extensive microbiological system for the in-office culture of avian specimens. This plate containing various media enables the user to perform presumtive identification of avian specimens in 18-24 hours.
Summary
The Avi-Culture Quad Plate contains four different selective and differential culture mediums for the avian specimens. EMB, Levine Agar is clear purple with a green-orange tinge and a fine percipitate. It is a selective media for the growth of gram negative organisms. The presence of eosin and methylene blue dyes in the agar inhibit the growth of most gram positives. Species that ferment the sugar lactose appear as pink to purple colonies, while lactose non-fermenters appear translucent or colorless. Escherichia coli often has a green metallic sheen when growing on this medium.
CLED AND PSEUDOSEL AGARS
TO BE PUT IN HERE
XLD agar is a clear red in color. This media is used to differentiate enteric bacilli on the basis of carbohydrate utilization and H2S production, which gives a black coloring to the colonies.
Precaution
For the in vitro diagnostic only. Observe approved biohazard precautions and aseptic techniques. (review chapters on both within this workbook). To be used only by adequately trained and qualified laboratory personnel. Sterilize all biohazard waste before disposal.
